Press Pack

Along with my final piece, i brought together a promotional pack for the project.  Here are the business cards (ignore the url for the time being as the site is still a work i progress!)

These are not designed as self promotional business cards but more with the intention of promoting the theoretical charity that my shot video would promote.  They are designed in the hope of creating some sort of brand identity for the project.

Final Honors Project

This is the final piece for my final year honors project.  It has been an emotion and enlightening journey but I am pleased with the outcome.  For this project i focused on the discipline of advertising and promotion and applied that to a short, experimental advert, raising awareness of children's cancer.  Through research I became concerned by the generic and repetitive construction of charity promotion.  I challenged myself to question the way these campaigns visually promote themselves and how the community is becoming desensitized to the common use of negative appeals.  I hoped to design something positive as a reflection of the beauty and love and connection that can occur when people experience something difficult within their lives as a way to appeal to the viewers altruistic nature.

The final project incorporates two influential themes.  The use of light to highlight hope and suggest the idea of 'shining light on children's cancer' and symbols of fireflies that reiterate the idea of light while incorporating a scientific element.  The gene that allows a firefly to glow has gone through tests as an aid in the detection of cancerous tumors and seemed an appropriate symbol for this project.

Dare Application

Dare to be Digital is a international games competition where students get the opportunity to design and create there own game.  I brought together a team to begin developing a game idea that focused on the art being one of the main attractions.  Inspired by papercraft, we developed an application video using cardboard props to convey the game play.  Unfortunately the competition was stiff and we did not make it to the next stage.  However, it was a lot of fun and a great experience bringing together the video.  My main task was to make the props and example artwork along with touching up the final video in After Effects.  The judges might not have enjoyed it but i hope you do!
